Pretoria - Police are on the hunt for six men who robbed a café and shot dead a woman in The Reeds.

Police spokesman Constable Tumisang Moloto said the men stormed into Phillips Café just after 6.30pm on Saturday and robbed the establishment.

“Two of the six men were armed. One jumped over the counter and took money from the cash register while the owner was held at gunpoint by another suspect,” he said.

The robbers then fled the store.

While in the parking lot, one of the suspects shot at a couple who were leaving.

Moloto said it was not certain at this time if the couple were inside the supermarket when the robbery was carried out.

“It seems as if the couple were driving away when the men ran after them and shot at the driver, but the bullet hit the woman.

“We are not sure if the robbers shot at them because they suspected they witnessed the robbery, or if they did witness the robbery.”

Moloto said the woman was rushed to a medical centre by her husband. An ambulance then took her to hospital, where she died.
