The family of a 58-year-old man who was shot by robbers outside his home in Monument Park on Tuesday and died early on Wednesday, say they are trying to come to terms with their loss.

On Wednesday, relatives and friends visited the grief-stricken family at their home in Pikkewyn Street.

A man believed to be the son of Michael Loubsher told the Pretoria News the family were not yet ready to talk of their ordeal.

The family arrived home on Tuesday evening to the news that Loubsher had been shot.

Police spokeswoman Captain Colette Weilbach said Loubsher had been overpowered in his driveway by the robbers. It is believed that the suspects followed Loubsher home. It could not be established where they had begun tailing him.

A source told the Pretoria News that Loubsher had pulled into his driveway, got out of his vehicle and walked to the boot to remove items.

“About three to four suspects came in immediately behind him, but he didn't notice them.

“When he turned around to go inside he saw them and then ran, and that is when they shot him.”

It is understood the rest of the family were not at home, but that a domestic worker apparently heard noises.

Weilbach confirmed that Loubsher had been shot in the legs, but did not say how many wounds he received.

“The suspects then stole some goods from the house,” Weilbach said.

The source said that plasma televisions were taken from the house.

It is believed the domestic worker, as well as a neighbour, who went to investigate the commotion found Loubsher in a pool of blood in the driveway.

Security services, as well as the sector community policing forum, police and an ambulance were called to the scene. The rest of the family were also notified.

Loubsher was taken to hospital and had immediate surgery.
