Johannesburg - A matric pupil from Jeugland High School in Kempton Park is in hot water after breaking into his school and leaving “explicit pornographic material” of himself on a teacher’s desk.

Police spokesman Captain Lefidana Molokomme said 18-year-old Jaco Janse van Rensburg, who appeared in court this week after his arrest on Tuesday, is facing a charge of breaking and entering - he allegedly entered a classroom through a window.

Molokomme said as far as the police were aware, nothing was taken from the classroom.

The pupil is out on bail.

The school’s principal, Dr David Morrison, said the school had opened trespassing and crimen injuria cases against the teenager. The incident happened three weekends ago.

Morrison said the trespassing charge was related to the fact that the school was locked up when Janse van Rensburg allegedly entered the premises.

The crimen injuria charge was for the pornographic material he allegedly left on the teacher’s desk. “The teacher wants to be kept out of this,” Morrison said.

Despite the criminal case pending against the pupil, Morrison said the school governing body (SGB) would not be pursuing disciplinary action against him.

“Being in matric, we didn’t want to interfere with his exams. An SGB disciplinary hearing would have no purpose. With what do you punish such a case?” he said.

Morrison said the school felt the criminal case would be the better avenue, as Janse van Rensburg would have access to remedial programmes through the justice system the school would not be able to provide.

He said the teenager had never been in trouble with the school before and was not what one would consider a problem child. “This is actually a surprise,” he said.

Molokomme said the only charge captured in the docket was the one related to the break-in.

The matter was postponed for further investigation.
