Cape Town - Mitchells Plain police are searching for the gunmen who opened fire on a car outside a Westridge sports bar, killing one person and injuring five occupants.
It is unclear what the motive was for Sunday’s attack.
Police spokesman Frederick van Wyk said gunmen in a white Toyota Corolla stopped behind an Opel Astra in the Premiere Bar parking area and opened fire.
The sports bar is on the corner of Dagbreek and Amandel Avenue in Westridge.
“A 19-year-old male was fatally wounded and the other occupants sustained several wounds to their bodies.
“The victims were stabilised at the scene and later taken to hospital for further medical treatment,” Van Wyk said.
No arrests have been made.
It was unknown if the incident was gang related, Van Wyk said.
The murder of the 19-year-old follows that of two friends, Edgar Sables, 16, and Dylan Johnson, 21, in Valhalla Park on Friday.
Van Wyk said Bishop Lavis police had been called to the scene of the killings on the corner of Edward and Joyce Streets just before 3pm on Friday.
He said Edgar had been shot in the head while Johnson had gunshot wounds to the chest.
“Circumstances surrounding the (shooting) are unknown at this stage.
“No witnesses or any clues have been found at the crime scene at this stage,” Van Wyk said.
Police have yet to make an arrest but a murder case is under investigation.
Edgar’s cousin Michelle Fortuin said his mother, Jolene, was too distraught to speak.
She said the family was still trying to piece together what happened from information they had received from residents.
Fortuin said they had been told that there was a fight between gangs in the area but it was unclear whether the two were caught in the crossfire.
She said Jolene Sables had been at work at the time.
“She got a call to say she must come home, something had happened. When she got home she was told her son had been shot. It is really sad. Edgar and Dylan were best friends. They were inseparable and now they have died together,” Fortuin said.
