The Suleman triplets – Ameera, Muhammad and Taahir – have enjoyed having each other for support during their matric year, which they have aced with a mind-boggling 21 distinctions among them.
The 18-year-olds, of Westville, are now ready to start new chapters in their lives as they brace themselves for their tertiary studies.
The trio each attained seven distinctions in their seven subjects at trials – and during the NSC examination.
Ameera is the oldest, a pupil at Westville Girls’ High. Muhammad and the youngest of the three, Taahir, attend Westville Boys’ High.
Ameera and Taahir are intent on becoming doctors, while Muhammad wants to pursue a BCom degree in accounting.
They have each been provisionally accepted at different universities.
Said Ameera: “Becoming a doctor is a fulfilling career and will offer a meaningful life. I would like to specialise – becoming either a paediatrician or a psychiatrist.”
Taahir added that he wanted to make a change in the community and was considering venturing into orthopedics.
Added Muhammad: “I’m not a health science person. Sick people don’t appeal to me.”
He said he had had an enjoyable matric year. “People don’t think about the good things during matric, they focus on the stresses of it being the final year. I went in with the attitude that I did well in Grade 11 and that if I keep my head down and work, it will be okay.”
Asked if there was competition between the three, Taahir said he was competitive one.
Being the eldest of the three, Ameera jokingly admitted that contrary to belief, she was not considered the boss. The siblings have two older sisters.
