WATCH: Boy, 7, mowed down by red car during spinning show
Cape Town - The moment a seven-year-old boy was mowed down by a speeding car in Kraaifontein was caught on camera.
Other people can be seen spinning their wheels in a parking lot.
It’s been more than two weeks since little Noah Hattingh was killed, but he has not been laid to rest yet because his grandmother cannot afford a funeral for him.
The boy was orphaned when he was just four months old, and was raised by his granny Pauline Hattingh, 52.
Police have confirmed a case of culpable homicide was opened for investigation.
“No arrest has yet been made. A statement from the driver has been obtained, and the investigation is ongoing,” said police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk.
Noah was among dozens of children who were watching members of the Scottsdene Spinners Car Club burning tyres at a parking lot of some shops in Koopman Avenue in Scottsdene on Sunday, 19 November.
A video of the incident shows children running towards a loudly revving yellow BMW spinning on the tar, keeping well out of the driver’s way.
A minute later a red car comes speeding down the adjacent road and hits Noah.
Donnie Cupido, 31, of the BMW club says the driver is not a member of their club.
“I wasn’t on the pitch when it happened, I heard about the boy being killed while he was running in the street,” he says.

“The guy who was driving the red car is not part of our club. We also don’t know what has since happened to him, whether police arrested him or not.”
He says they put on a show for the community over weekends because there is nothing else for the children to do.
“We have no facilities, not even a swimming pool. We will be more vigilant in future to prevent such a tragedy again.”
The club will also be contributing towards Noah’s funeral, which is supposed to take place on Saturday, but his grandmother says she still needs to raise R3 500.
Pauline says Noah was her everything. The little boy was a big fan of Springbok Elton Jantjies and was going to get a haircut like his for Christmas, she says.
“I cannot believe he is dead. Please, someone, bring him back,” the granny sobbed when speaking to the Daily Voice.
Later when she was calm, Pauline said: “He would have been in Grade 2 at Parkdene Primary next year. He loved sport and wanted to be like his heroes, like Elton Jantjies.
“I just want to hold him one more time. Now I have nothing to give him, not even a funeral.”
