Hawks members from the Durban Serious Commercial Crime Investigation conducted a successful operation in Durban on Thursday, confiscating counterfeit Sony Dual Shock Controllers valued at around R1 156 300.

The investigation highlights ongoing efforts by border police to combat intellectual property infringement in KwaZulu-Natal.

In a statement, Warrant Officer Sibu Ncane, the spokesperson for the Hawks, said members successfully executed a search warrant at the Clairwood Park container depot in Durban, leading to the confiscation of counterfeit goods valued at an estimated R1 156 300.

"The investigation began when the border police intercepted and inspected a container in November 2024, following which samples were withdrawn for further analysis. It was confirmed by the brand attorneys that 891 Sony Dual Shock Controllers were counterfeit. No arrest has been made at this stage, but the investigation continues," said Ncane in a statement.

Major General (Dr) Lesetja Senona, the KwaZulu-Natal Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Provincial Head, said the discovery and confiscation of the counterfeit items represented a significant step forward in the fight against intellectual property infringement and the proliferation of counterfeit goods in the province.
