Reality television personality Maria Valaskatzis, known for her role on The Real Housewives of Durban, has partnered with the South African Red Cross Society to make a lasting impact in the lives of families affected by the recent floods in Impendle and Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal.
Having witnessed the devastating aftermath of the floods, Valaskatzis has committed to work alongside the society to initiate a crucial project, focused on building proper housing for those most severely affected.
"Seeing the devastation in Impendle and Newcastle was truly heartbreaking," said Valaskatzis, who is also a businesswoman.
"The floods have left so many families without proper shelter, and the need for safe housing is critical. I am incredibly honoured to partner with the South African Red Cross Society, whose tireless work on the ground is already providing vital support."
With the team from the society, she said she was determined to embark on a project that would provide lasting and dignified homes for those who have lost everything.
She will leverage her platform to raise awareness about the ongoing needs of flood victims, and make a tangible difference via fundraising efforts.
Valaskatzis and Siyabonga Hlatshwayo, the KZN Regional Manager of the society, will work in collaboration with the local municipalities to ensure all houses are built safely and in accordance with all necessary building regulations and requirements.
Hlatshwayo said the society was delighted to welcome Valaskatzis as a partner in their efforts to support flood-affected communities.
"Her compassion and dedication, combined with her public profile, will be invaluable in raising awareness and securing the resources needed to build these essential homes. This collaboration will significantly boost our ongoing work to provide relief and long-term support to those who have suffered immense losses."
Details regarding upcoming fundraising initiatives and the timeline for the housing project will be announced in the coming weeks.
