Jason Parumal, a 45-year-old businessman, is set to appear in court following his arrest for allegedly defrauding victims of R1.2 million through a fraudulent logistics scheme.
Parumal was arrested when a warrant was executed last Wednesday, following allegations of a fraudulent scheme involving business partners and a logistics company.
He allegedly misrepresented business opportunities to victims, leading to a loss of R1.2 million paid for non-existent trucks and trailers.
"The case was registered at Edenvale police station in February 2024. Further investigations revealed fabricated documentation implicating the victims' company, resulting in additional financial damages, including a loss of R2.4 million suffered by Hollard Insurance," said Lieutenant-Colonel Lloyd Ramovha from the Hawks.
"Parumal was apprehended at OR Tambo International Airport and made his first court appearance at the Germiston Magistrates’ Court last Thursday. The case, which remains under investigation, is scheduled for a bail application on Friday."
