Sean and Armaan Jaganath celebrated a unique milestone as they both graduated from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Sean, who earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA), described the timing of their shared academic journeys as serendipitous.

“It was an unexpected coincidence that became a meaningful bonding experience,” he said.

“While we pursued different paths, the journey brought us together in a way I will always cherish. Seeing my son succeed reminds me that the future is bright, and that he’s more than ready to take it on.”

Armaan, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, called the moment incredibly emotional.

“My dad has always been my role-model, and to reach this milestone together feels almost surreal. Despite both of us juggling demanding academic schedules, he constantly supported me. Sharing in each other’s achievements made this moment even more meaningful, and it’s something I’ll treasure for the rest of my life.”

Though three decades apart in age and enrolled in different programmes, Sean and Armaan leaned on each other throughout their studies.

“Armaan was incredibly helpful with the technical aspects of my coursework,” said Sean.

“He’s become quite the tech expert, and I often relied on him for formatting documents, navigating academic platforms, and IT support. In turn, I shared lessons in time management, research discipline, and professional insight. It was rewarding to learn from each other in different ways.”

Armaan added: “My dad has always been my hero. Even while pursuing his own goals, he never stopped being my biggest supporter. I'm so proud of him, not just for earning his MBA, but for being an incredible person and father.”

He described the week as one filled with reflection, storytelling, and celebration.

“There’s an overwhelming sense of pride in the air,” Armaan said.

“Not just for what we’ve achieved individually, but for what we’ve shared as a family.”

Sean hopes his MBA will give him a competitive edge in his current role as Group Export Sales Manager at Tongaat Hulett, while Armaan plans to further his studies and step into the working world as a software engineer.
