A GRANDSON charged with murder of blind grandmother in Phoenix, abandoned his bail application in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court, on Friday.

Lincoln Moodley, 24, was arrested and charged for the alleged murder of Kamatchie Naicker and the attempted murder of his 63-year-old mother, Shirley Appalsamy.

His mother remains in a critical condition in hospital.

The women were repeatedly stabbed with a large butcher’s knife during a brutal attack at their Westham, Phoenix home on June 9. A small kitchen knife was also found at the scene.

Naicker, a grandmother of eight, sustained multiple stab wounds to her face and body. She was declared dead by Reaction Unit South Africa  paramedics, who arrived at the home. 

Appalsamy, a mother of two, sustained multiple  stab wounds to both her cheeks, neck and hands.stabbed multiple times and her throat was slit.

She was resuscitated before being taken to a hospital and remains in a critical condition. 

Moodley was arrested by Phoenix SAPS detectives, in Amaoti, north of Durban on June 10. 

Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, the spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority in KZN, said Moodley abandoned his bid for bail. 

She said the case was adjourned to July for further investigations.
