A PHOENIX mother who was stabbed multiple times and her throat slit, allegedly by her son, is recovering at home.
Shirley Appalsamy, 63, and her mother, Kamatchie Naicker, 83, were repeatedly stabbed with a butcher's knife in their home in Westham on June 9.
Appalsamy, a mother of two, sustained multiple stab wounds to her cheeks, neck and hands, and her throat was slit. She was resuscitated before being taken to a hospital
Naicker, who was blind, sustained multiple stab wounds to her face and body. She was declared dead by Reaction Unit South Africa paramedics.
Appalsamy’s son, Lincoln Moodley, was arrested by Phoenix SAPS detectives in Amaoti, north of Durban, on June 10. He was charged with murder and attempted murder.
During his first court appearance, Moodley abandoned his bid for bail. On Monday, he appeared briefly in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court and the case was adjourned for further investigations.
Speaking to the POST outside the court, Appalsamy’s relative, who declined to be named, said she had since been discharged.
“She is recovering at home but she is still not in the best state and struggles to speak. Her recovery is expected to take some time but we are hopeful she will be fully healed.”
The relative added that they hoped for justice.
