DISCOVER the heartwarming story of Jack, a one-eyed kitten who overcame neglect and found a loving home with his rescuer, Zoey Arran
Three-month old kitten, Jack, received a second chance at life when he was recently rescued by Paw Arusa Director, Zoey Arran, in Clayfield, Phoenix.
“When I found him, he was in a terrible state. He had been left for dead. It looked like he had been kicked in the head. His injury caused his eye to pop out. But he was a fighter and I knew there was no way that I was going to let him die,” said Aran.
She said she had approached many organisations for assistance, but was told to euthanise Jack because his injuries were so severe that his eye could not be saved.
“No one wanted to adopt him either,” she said.
Aran said she then went on a fundraising drive and raised R1 000, which was not enough for the medical bills.
“This was a helpless animal. He had suffered at the hands of cruel people. No animal should be treated in this way,” said Arran, who made a heartfelt decision to cover the cost of Jack’s outstanding medical bill.
After making a complete recover, Jack has found his happy ending with Arran.
“Looking at Jack with so much life in him despite his eye popping out made me feel more confident in his recovery. I do not regret a day in this journey. I decided not to put Jack up for adoption, but keep him with me. I understand his health, his lifestyle and his needs. He eats a special diet so there is no strain on him. I prefer keeping him as comfortable as possible.
“Jack does not like toys, and still has a lot of fear in him but he loves playing with the other feline babies. His recovery is one day at a time. But he is happy and loved.”
