THE PowerBall jackpot for today is an estimated R113 million, following an exciting streak of 19 roll-overs.

Since June 1, Ithuba, the operator of the National Lottery, paid out more than half a billion rand in total winnings to more than 17.7 million players, with seven players becoming new multi-millionaires.

Among the recent big winners was a Cape Town mother who scooped a Lotto Plus 1 jackpot of over R30 million in the draw held on Saturday (July 25).

“The first thing I’m doing is getting my daughter a car,” she said.

“She relies heavily on e-hailing services to get to work, and that worries me. I want her to travel safely and independently.”

Ithuba said the soaring jackpot had ignited national excitement, with more South Africans joining the game with the hope of becoming the next big winner.

“This is what the National Lottery is all about - changing lives, creating opportunities, and giving people a reason to dream again,” said Charmaine Mabuza, Ithuba's CEO.

Ticket sales for the R113 million PowerBall draw will close at 8.30pm today.
