AUTHORITIES have confirmed that two severed hands found in Trenance Park in Verulam earlier today were merely props, following a call from a concerned newspaper distributor.
Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), a private security company, had responded to a call from the newspaper distributor who said he had seen animal or human limbs wrapped in a bloody white cloth.
“Upon arrival, reaction officers discovered two human hands near the boundary wall of a primary school, with an animal tongue found nearby," said Prem Balram, the head of Rusa, at the time.
He said reaction officers were conducting a search of the area for a human body.
This evening, Rusa reported that SAPS detectives and policemen conducted an investigation and the hands were eventually transported by police to the eThekwini District Medico Legal Mortuary.
"They confirmed that the realistic appearing limbs were made of rubber," said Rusa in a statement.
