RESIDENTS in the Phoenix area are facing significant water supply disruptions following the discovery of a major leak on the trunk main supplying the Phoenix 3 and 4 Reservoirs.

Located alongside a river near the busy Phoenix Highway, the leak came to light after an extensive investigation by the City’s Water Services Directorate revealed the underlying cause of reduced inflows into the reservoirs.

This reduction ultimately led to an interruption of water supply in several communities reliant on these key water sources.

The affected pipeline, a 600mm trunk main, has since been isolated to facilitate river diversion and necessary repairs. A team is on-site and expediting the work, with water service restoration expected to follow quickly upon the completion of the repairs.

Initial restoration of water supply is anticipated for areas serviced by the Phoenix 3 Reservoir by the evening of September 19. Subsequently, those reliant on the Phoenix 4 Reservoir should see services resume by Saturday, September 20.

The following regions have been identified as impacted by this disruption:

  • Areas served by Phoenix 4 Reservoir:
    • Bhambayi
    • Amaoti
    • Westham
    • Fernham
    • Whestone
    • Brooksfarm
    • Northcroft
    • Parts of Sunford
    • Brookdale
    • Palmview
    • Satri Park
    • Trenance Manor
  • Areas served by Phoenix 3 Reservoir:
    • Redfern
    • Parts of Northcroft
    • Bridge City
    • Mt Royal
    • Phoenix Industrial Park
    • KwaMashu crossroads
