A PHOENIX man was shot once in the forehead in an alleged hit at his home in Northcroft in Phoenix, earlier today.

The victim was approached by two men at the gate of his Callen Avenue home.

The men briefly spoke with him before one pulled a firearm. Police are searching for the suspects who fled on foot.

“We viewed nearby CCTV footage and it showed two men approaching the house. They stopped at the victim’s gate. Moments later, one of them withdrew a firearm and shot the man once in his head. It was shocking to watch,” said a source close to the investigation.

Mark Nadesan, spokesperson for the Phoenix Community Policing Forum (CPF), said police were searching for two men linked to the man’s murder.

“We received reports of gunshots on Callen Avenue and rushed to the area. It was established that the man was washing his car when he was approached by two men at  2pm. They had a brief conversation.

“The man was still inside his gate, when he was shot dead. When we got to the house, his elderly parents were upstairs. It was sad to break the news to them,” Nadesan added.

He said the deceased was known to the CPF, as he had been lodging complaints regarding a business which was operating from a home on the same street.

“While we do not know if the two suspects were known to the victim, we ask the public to notify police if they have any information.

“This seems to be a hit, taking into consideration the manner in which the man was killed,” Nadesan said.

Gareth Naidoo, spokesperson for KZN VIP Emergency Services and Security, said  the circumstances surrounding the incident was unclear. He said their security officers had helped police search the area for the suspects.
