COMPETING against aspiring young scientists from across South Africa, Ireland, India, Russia, Mexico, Ghana and other African countries, Hillcrest High School pupil, Saiusha Viraragavan, was awarded a silver medal at the 45th Eskom Expo International Science Fair.
At the event, young scientists were acknowledged for their exceptional contributions to science, technology, engineering, mathematics and innovation (STEMI).
After excelling in the regional round of the competition, Saiusha was selected to showcase her research submission to judges and guests from across the globe, and other young scientists at the fair in Gauteng earlier this month.
“We are incredibly proud of Saiusha for her dedication and the hard work required to compete at this level,” said Hillcrest High School principal, Denise Knight.
“In the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN central) level of the competition, she won several awards, including a gold medal, the Eskom Award for Best Female, the Best in Category for Social Sciences, and the Overall Best Performer in the Secondary School level. She received a cash prize and won a drone.”
The Eskom Expo International Science Fair is regarded as a platform where innovation, scientific curiosity, and hard work are recognised, and groundbreaking ideas and discoveries are celebrated.
