AN EMOTIONAL Pradeep Singh, the father of Shailen Singh, who was shot dead while seated in his vehicle in Meridian Drive, Umhlanga, on December 29, congratulated the investigative and justice teams for trying to bring closure on his son's "untimely" death.
Singh spoke to the POST after Durban security boss, Ferrel Govender, who is accused of killing Shailen, a Mount Edgecombe businessman, was denied bail in the Durban Magistrate's Court this morning.
Wearing a T-shirt with his son's picture on it, Singh said the family needed justice for Shailen's wife and his son, who had turned 1.
Singh said his grandchild's first words were "Dada".
Govender, 41, the group CEO of Pro Secure, brought a bail application based on new facts before the court last month. The father of three, together with his brother, Darren Govender, 36, were charged with the murder of Shailen earlier this year. The brothers handed themselves over to police on January 1. it alleged that the motive for the killing was due to a “love relationship”.
Singh was being accused of having an affair with Ferrel’s girlfriend. Ferrel was denied bail during the initial bail application heard earlier this year. His brother was granted R200 000 bail.
In handing his ruling, Magistrate Kevin Broughton, said he found that interest of justice weighed heavy against Govender's application and that there were no exceptional circumstances.
