TWO men were arrested in Montclair after they were found with 71.5kg of water fittings, copper pipes, and burnt copper cables allegedly stolen from Chatsworth.

POLICE in Montclair intercepted a truck carrying stolen copper and water infrastructure worth R12 000, leading to the arrest of two men.
The stolen materials were traced back to Chatsworth as authorities intensify their fight against infrastructure theft.
The men, aged 33 and 44, were found with 71.5 kg of water fittings, copper pipes, and burnt copper cables.
Captain Carmen Rhynes, the eThekwini District police spokesperson, said the infrastructure was found in eight bags.
“Members of the SAPS Economic Infrastructure Task Team conducted an information driven operation within the Montclair area. A truck suspected to be carrying illicit copper and water infrastructure was said to be coming from the Chatsworth area.
“The truck was eventually spotted and stopped by SAPS members. The stolen items were alleged to be sourced within the Chatsworth area. Both suspects were arrested for being in possession of suspected stolen property and being in possession of burnt copper cables valued at approximately R12 000,” said Rhynes.
Major General Makhosazana Victoria Kheswa, eThekwini District police commissioner, commended the police.
“Theft and damage of any infrastructure in our communities is taken very seriously. It poses a great threat to our economy, our businesses and the safety of our communities. It is a serious offence and eThekwini SAPS are committed to prevent and arrest anyone involved in such criminal activities and ensure that they face serious consequences when brought before a court of law,” said Kheswa.
The suspects are expected to appear in court today.
