IN A HEARTWARMING display of support, DurbanXOwners (DXO), a car crew, recently donated more than 300kg of dog food, treats, blankets, and detergents to the animal welfare non-profit organisation, Puppy SOS KZN.
The organisation, which has a shelter in Oaklands, Verulam, houses over 100 abandoned and neglected dogs.
Romita Hanuman-Pillay, who is part of DXO, said the shelter relied heavily on the generosity of donations to fulfill its mission of rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming the vulnerable animals.
She said the car crew, which had over 80 members with the classic and sought-after Toyota RunX, have events in each quarter of the year.
“We usually have runs every three months or so but we try to make the last one for the year impactful. We choose a charity, get our members on board, have our X-Mas Run and collect the donations.”
The car crew consists of passionate RunX owners who believe in serving humanity.

Hanuman-Pillay said the members drove to Park Rynie on the south coast in a convoy of RunXs and were able to collect items to donate.
“We also received substantial sponsorship which allowed us to purchase more for the shelter. This year we decided to donate to Puppy SOS KZN, as they are in desperate need of dog food. Although the shelter has a wishlist, the most important item is always food.
“It was our honour and privilege to be able to assist this shelter as they are doing God’s work. We are also grateful that we had the opportunity to meet and spend time with the dogs. It was an eye-opener to us and we encourage other car crews to do the same,” she said.
David Hanson, the founder of Puppy SOS KZN, said: “We are grateful to DurbanXOwners. The donation will assist us so much as food is our biggest challenge. We also help the local rural dogs, some are so hungry that they eat stones to fill their tummies. We appreciate this so much.”
