Dr Krubin Naidoo passed away on Sunday.

COLLEAGUES in the medical fraternity and families are mourning the loss of Dr Krubin Naidoo, 54, a cardiothoracic surgeon and extracorporeal life support specialist (ECMO), who died on Sunday while attending the World Congress for Paediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery in Hong Kong.
The Paediatric Cardiac Society of South Africa, referred to him on social media as a "dedicated surgeon whose skill, compassion and commitment transformed the life of countless children".
The SA Heart Association added: "His loss is deeply and will continue to be felt within our community."
The Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital (NMCH) posted: "He was a compassionate leader, an exceptional surgeon and a valued member of our NMCH family who will be deeply missed and forever remembered. His impact will continue to live on through the children and families he served."
It added: "Dr Naidoo joined the NMCH on 1 March 2018, bringing with him a distinguished career in paediatric and congenital heart surgery and decades of clinical experience across South Africa and internationally. His expertise spanned cardiothoracic surgery, critical care and extracorporeal life support, supported by extensive training and professional development completed at leading institutions in the United States, Europe and South Africa."
The statement said Dr Naidoo played a central role in establishing and advancing highly specialised cardiac services for children in their hospital.
"His contribution to pediatric cardiothoracic surgery, including his leadership in surgical care, registrars' training and multidisciplinary heart-team collaboration, have had a lasting impact on countless young patients and their families."
The NMCH added that beyond his clinical excellence, Dr Naidoo was known for his humility, dedication and deep commitment to improving the wellbeing of children with complex cardiac conditions.
One Facebook user, Mbalenhle KaMtungwa Khumalo, wrote: "I'm deeply saddened by the news. Dr Krubin Naidoo was a humble, patient, and extraordinary human being. We’re forever grateful for the care he gave our daughter, when he successfully operated her at NMCH. His expertise and compassion were a beacon of hope for us. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. He was a miracle worker for many. May his soul rest in peace. Thank you for saving my daughter. Your service will always be cherished. RIP Doc!"
Another, Cebokuhle Soko, added: "Thank you for your service Dr Naidoo. You saved my son's life last year."
