THE University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) congratulates the Matric Class of 2025, particularly the achievements of KZN on attaining the highest matric pass rate nationally, 90%.

UKZN will now commence issuing SMS notifications for firm offers from tomorrow morning.

These offers, said UKZN in a statement, will be released in batches over the coming days until all 9 124 places for first-time entering undergraduate students have been filled.

"Applicants who receive offers are advised that such offers are valid for 72 hours (three days). Offers not accepted within this period will lapse and be reallocated to other prospective students. Applicants are therefore encouraged to monitor their messages carefully and to respond within the stipulated timeframe," said UKZN in statement.

"All first-time entering undergraduate applicants should, however, be aware that meeting the minimum admission requirements for a programme does not guarantee a place, as spaces are limited. For example, for the current admissions cycle, UKZN received a total of 326 546 applications for the available 9 000 places. Selection is therefore competitive and based on academic merit, with offers made to the highest-performing applicants until all places are filled.

"First-time entering undergraduate students who have successfully accepted offers to study will be able to register remotely online from February 2 to 7. In line with previous years, no on-campus or in-person registration services will be offered, and no unregistered individuals will be permitted access to University of KwaZulu-Natal campuses during the registration period."

Normah Zondo, the Executive Director for Corporate Relations at UKZN, cautioned prospective students not to arrive at the campuses, as no unregistered person would be allowed to enter.

"We urge applicants to rely only on official information from the university. Furthermore, we wish to emphasise that spaces at UKZN are not sold. No UKZN employee will instruct you to come to campus, and no UKZN employee will request payment in exchange for a place,” said Zondo.

She said UKZN was committed to supporting the new students throughout this transition into higher education.
