SOCIAL media has been abuzz following the introduction of Ashay Sewlall as a housemate on Big Brother Mzansi (BBM) season 6, with many viewers already tipping him as an early fan favourite.

Sewlall, 24, a TikTok content creator and former professional football player from Richards Bay, in KwaZulu-Natal, is among the 20 contestants who entered South Africa’s most watched reality show when the new season premiered on January 11.

On Sunday, Sewlall made history as the first Indian participant to enter the BBM house, a milestone that quickly captured the attention of viewers across the country.

From his first appearance, he left a strong impression, earning praise for his confidence, charisma and vibrant personality.

Fans have particularly enjoyed his ability to speak multiple languages, especially isiZulu, which many say makes him relatable and engaging to a broad audience. His effortless charm, energetic dance moves and lively presence have further endeared him to viewers.

In his entry video, Sewlall confidently outlined what he planned to bring into the house.

“The vibes I’m bringing to the house are a lot of fun, a lot of uniqueness, and a lot of spice,” he said.

The mention of “spice” did not go unnoticed, with social media quickly adopting the affectionate nickname "Paprika" for the contestant - a playful reference to the popular spice.

Already well-known on TikTok and in the football fraternity before joining the show, Sewlall built a strong following through his vlogs, fitness content and humorous personality. This pre-existing fanbase has seamlessly transitioned into supporting him on BBM, while he continues to attract new fans daily.

Within just days of the show’s launch, a growing online movement dubbed Team Paprika has emerged, with supporters from KZN and across South Africa rallying behind him.

Social media users have flooded platforms with messages of support, with some saying:

“He has won my heart already, the creativity is on point!”

“These are the type of people worth stanning - competitive, creative and funny.”

“I think I like him. I’m ready to defend and vote for Team paprika.”

As the season unfolds, all eyes will be on Sewlall to see whether his early popularity and "spicy" personality can carry him far in the Big Brother house.
