FORMER Survivor South Africa champion Rob Bentele is trading strategic gameplay for political strategy as he announces his candidacy for councillor in KwaZulu-Natal's uMhlathuze Municipality under the Democratic Alliance banner.
After years of avoiding politics, Bentele says he could 'no longer sit back and do nothing.
The former reality show champion - whose victory on Survivor South Africa made him a household name for strategy, resilience and social skill - is now bringing his ambition into the political arena as part of the DA’s preparation for the 2026 local government elections.
"I’ve always stayed out of politics because it can be polarising and divisive. But there comes a time when you can no longer sit back and do nothing.
“For the sake of uMhlathuze and its people, I am applying for Councillor under the Democratic Alliance. Change starts when we stand up," he wrote on Facebook.
