A TEENAGER allegedly running his father's drug operation has been arrested in Phoenix with methcathinone valued at R15,000.

The arrest of the 19-year-old followed a joint intelligence-driven operation by multiple law enforcement agencies including Durban Metro Police, the Counter Narcotics KZN and the SAPS.

Police said the suspect was the son of an alleged drug dealer and was believed to have taken over the syndicate’s operations.

During the operation, officers found the suspect in possession of about 100 grams of methcathinone, with an estimated street value of R15,000.

He was charged with dealing in and possession of drugs.

KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed that the arrest took place on Tuesday.

“Police received information about a man who was dealing in drugs at Rucklen Place in Phoenix. Officers responded to the information, searched the premises and found the suspect in possession of drugs,” Netshiunda said.

At the time of the arrest, the suspect was detained at Phoenix SAPS. Durban Metro Police spokesperson Colonel Boysie Zungu said the operation highlighted the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat drug-related crimes.

“This operation demonstrates the continued commitment of law enforcement agencies to dismantle drug syndicates and protect communities from drug-related crime,” Zungu said.
