AS VALENTINE'S Day approaches on Saturday, Ashay Sewlall surprised his fellow housemates in Big Brother Mzansi with a heartfelt gesture - choosing to express love for everyone instead of just one.
In the spirit of love, Big Brother gave the housemates a special task called the “Cuff it Proposal”, where each person had to choose one housemate to ask to be their Valentine by giving them a card.
While most housemates followed the rules and handed their cards to one person, Sewlall chose a different path. He gave every housemate a card, explaining that he could not choose between them.
“I know Biggie (Big Brother) said we must choose one person, but I love everyone in this house,” he said.
Sewlall added that while it was not common for someone to get along with everyone in the house, he believed in being himself.
“I know it’s not normal to get along with everybody, but if you have it, you have it. Ma umnandi, umnandi,” he said, loosely meaning, when you are nice, you are nice.
One by one, Sewlall handed out Valentine’s cards to the housemates, telling them how much they meant to him.
“I love you all. You are family to me and I hope you all have a good Valentine's week."
He also reflected on the warnings he received before entering the house, where people told him he was “too nice” and “too friendly” for the Big Brother environment.
“But unfortunately that’s me,” he added.
After handing out the cards, he saved the final and most meaningful moment for last. He approached Liyema and referred to her as his best friend in the house; a sister figure and someone he could speak to about everything.
He added that they shared something important in common - both are in committed relationships outside the house.
Even though Liyema had already been asked by another housemate, Sewlall asked her to be his Valentine friend for the week.
The heartfelt gesture stood out as one of the most touching moments of the week, reminding viewers that kindness, honesty and genuine connection could still shine through in a game often filled with strategy and competition.
