A 38-YEAR-OLD woman was attacked, stabbed, and raped by two men near Woodhurst Park in Bayview, on Sunday afternoon.

After escaping her attackers, she flagged down help on the Bayview off-ramp. Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects, with community leaders condemning violence against women.

Claude Subramodey, spokesperson for Amawele Emergency Services, said the woman had escaped and ran onto the Bayview off-ramp, where she flagged down a security vehicle for assistance.

He said when he got to the woman, she was lying on the pavement bleeding from her wounds at the Bayview off-ramp. She was allegedly accosted by two men armed with knives.

“They dragged her to an isolated area in the park, near the circus site, and tied her to a tree.

“She alleged that one of the men raped her while the other stabbed her. We treated her for her injuries and stabilised her before transporting her to hospital,” Subramodey said.

Brandon Pillay, chairperson of the Bayview Community Policing (CPF) said the woman was also robbed of her cellphone.

“Both suspects are in their 30s. The victim is currently at the Thuthuzela Care Centre receiving treatment. Bayview police have launched a manhunt for the suspects.

“We are concerned about the safety of our women and children. We condemn this act in the strongest form. We will ensure that police do everything to find the suspects and bring them to book.

“There is no place for violence against women in our community. We have taken a strong and firm stance against it. We will ensure that the victim receives the necessary support she needs. We advise women to avoid walking alone in areas where it is unsafe, such as pathways and near bushes,” he added.
