A HEADLESS decomposed body of a man was found near the Sri Emperumal Temple in Riet River, Verulam, earlier today.

According to Prem Balram, head of Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), a caller informed them about the decapitated body in dense vegetation about 50 metres from the temple.

“We were led into the bush where a man's remains were found on the ground. A skull was located a few metres away from the body. The remains were in an advanced stage of decomposition; the skull was completely stripped of flesh. A member of the public informed officers that some residents had been told a body was spotted in the bush in December,” said Balram.

He said the information had not been reported to the police because the individual who made the discovery at the time was an alleged drug user.

“The identity of the deceased is unknown, and the circumstances surrounding the death have not been confirmed. The police were notified and they have taken over the scene,” Balram said.
