THE winner of the LOTTO PLUS 1 jackpot of more than R13 million has officially claimed his prize - and can now buy a car and as many new suits as father likes.
The winning ticket was purchased with a R10 wager using the manual selection method at a retail outlet in Kempton Park.
The man discovered on Sunday that his numbers matched. Three of the winning numbers were part of his regular selection - numbers he has consistently played over time.
In a statement, Ithuba, the operator of the National Lottery, said the man purchased his winning ticket at a local spaza shop, while driving back home to Pretoria.
"He shared that something told him to purchase a ticket that Saturday, and he decided to follow that instinct, a decision that ultimately changed his life. After verifying his win, he described the experience as overwhelming and truly life-changing," said Ithuba in a statement.
"Despite becoming an overnight multi-millionaire, the winner confirmed that he would continue working, as he strongly believed in staying active and productive. He also shared that he would continue playing National Lottery games."
The man planned to invest a portion of the winnings, purchase a new car, and renovate his home and his father's house. Most importantly, he looks forward to buying his father new suits, as his father enjoys dressing smartly.
Beyond personal plans, the winner expressed his desire to empower his children so they do not rely entirely on him financially. He intends to assist them in starting their own businesses to promote long-term financial independence and sustainability.
Charmaine Mabuza, the CEO of Ithuba, said: “Winning multi-millions on Valentine’s Day makes this story even more special; it is a beautiful reminder that life can change in an instant. We are inspired by this winner’s commitment to family, hard work, and empowerment. We wish him and his loved ones every success as they begin this exciting new chapter.”
