A driver narrowly escaped injury after losing control of his vehicle at a well-known shopping centre in La Lucia, north of the Durban CBD.
According to Tyron Powell, spokesperson for Marshal Security, the company’s Emergency Dispatch Centre received the alert this morning.
“Marshall Security’s Emergency Dispatch Centre received a report that a vehicle had lost control at a well-known shopping centre in the La Lucia area,” Powell said.
Community Support officers were immediately sent to the scene, where they found that the vehicle had crashed into a wall structure on the upper level of the premises.
Powell said the impact caused sections of the wall to break apart.
“The vehicle crashed into the wall, sending debris onto vehicles parked in the parking bay below,” he explained.
Despite the dramatic scene, the driver was not seriously hurt.
“The driver was not injured and was assessed by paramedics on scene as a precautionary measure,” Powell added.
Emergency teams worked to secure the area and remove the damaged vehicle, which became wedged in the part of the wall.
“At this stage, there are no fatalities or serious injuries reported,” Powell confirmed.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
