A STOLEN black Audi A8 valued at about R1,1 million was recovered by police at a chop-shop in Redhill Farm in Tongaat.
A man, who runs the business, was arrested and charged with possession of property suspected to be stolen.
The spokesperson for Durban Metro Police, Colonel Boysie Zungu, said the joint operation was conducted on Sunday.
“The Durban Metro Police Service Tracing Unit, in collaboration with the SAPS Provincial Crime Intelligence, conducted an intelligence-driven operation at Redhill Farm in Tongaat following information about a suspected chop-shop operating in the area.
“During the operation, members searched the identified premises and recovered a black Audi A8 valued at approximately R1.1 million, which has been confirmed as a stolen vehicle.
“A suspect was arrested for possession of property suspected to be stolen (Section 36) and detained at Tongaat SAPS. The recovered vehicle was seized and booked in as evidence for further investigation,” said Zungu.
He said the operation highlighted the continued commitment of metro police and law enforcement partners to combat vehicle theft syndicates and dismantle illegal chop-shop operations within eThekwini.
“We urge members of the public to continue sharing information with law enforcement agencies to assist in the fight against crime,” Zungu added.
