The music scene has lost one of its luminary talents, Umita Kalyan.
The celebrated singer, known for her heartfelt performances alongside her husband Tansen Nepaul in the Tansen Nepaul Showband, passed away suddenly, leaving family, friends, and fans in mourning.
Her demise comes shortly after the recent loss of her dear friend, radio personality Zakia Ahmed Siddiqi, further deepening the sorrow within the community.
The news was announced via social media by friend Solly Pillay, who shared a message from Tansen Nepaul: "It is with a heavy heart and deep shock that I have to share the devastating news of the tragic and sudden passing of my beloved life partner, Umita Kalyan. I am sorry that I will not be able to take your calls and I sincerely appreciate your love and concern. Funeral arrangements will be advised soon. Sincerely, Tansen Nepaul."
Messages of condolence have been flooding in, showing the profound impact Kalyan had on those around her.
