A man was arrested today after damaging a vehicle carrying a group of women at robots near the Phoenix Highway entrance.

The video of the incident surfaced online and sparked concern among motorists.

According to reports, the man allegedly targeted motorists at the intersection during morning and afternoon peak traffic, attempting to rob drivers and passengers while vehicles were stationary.

It is alleged that the suspect stole cellphones from vehicles stopped at traffic lights.

In the latest incident today, the suspect reportedly approached a woman driving a Toyota Avanza. The driver and her passengers quickly closed their windows and attempted to drive away while shouting for him to move.

The situation escalated when the man pulled out a knife and began attacking the vehicle. He stabbed the bonnet and damaged the windshield wipers.

During the ordeal, a frightened passenger could be heard repeatedly saying “knock him” as the man stood in front of the vehicle and continued trying to remove the windshield wipers.

After several tense moments, the women managed to drive away from the scene without sustaining physical injuries.

Following the circulation of the video, security teams from KZN VIP Protection Services worked with the South African Police Service to track down and arrest the suspect.

Gareth Naidoo, spokesperson for KZN VIP Protection Services, confirmed that the suspect was now in custody and called on other victims to come forward.

“KZN VIP together with SAPS have successfully apprehended a suspect believed to be responsible for multiple robberies and attacks at the Trade Centre robot intersection,” said Naidoo.

“The suspect is currently in custody. However we urgently need victims and complainants to come forward so that strong cases can be built against the suspect.”

Naidoo urged anyone who may have been targeted at the intersection to report the incident.

“If you were robbed, attacked, or threatened at the Trade Centre robot intersection, please report the matter and make contact with the investigating officer at your nearest SAPS station. Your statement could be critical in ensuring that the suspect remains behind bars and faces the full might of the law. We urge members of the community not to remain silent. By coming forward, you may prevent further crimes and help bring justice to other victims,” he added.
