NORTHLANDS Girls' High School is heartbroken over the passing of Grade 10 pupil Lusanda Gumede, who fought cancer valiantly.

Tributes from friends, family, and fellow schools highlighted her kindness and the profound impact she had on those around her.

In a post on its Facebook page on Thursday, the school said Lusanda, "our beloved sister", had bravely fought cancer for more than a year.

"Lusanda will always be remembered as a true NGHS Knight. She was gentle, respectful and kind, with a warm smile that brought light to those around her. Her presence at NGHS was deeply valued, and her loss leaves a great void in our hearts. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with her parents and her sister in Grade 11 during this incredibly difficult time. May they find comfort in knowing that Lusanda touched so many lives and will forever remain a cherished part of the NGHS family."

Messages of condolences poured in on social media:

Sanjay Maharaj wrote: "May the family find the strength and courage to navigate this trying time in their lives. It's a devastating thing to experience in life but it's in God's hands that our lives lie in. It's HIM that giveth life and it's HIM that taketh away. All we can pray for is that the soul of our dearly departed child finds eternal peace."

Risha Sahdeo added: "Rest well, beautiful child. Our heartfelt condolences to the Gumede family. We pray for strength for her family, friends and Northland Girls family."
