BUSINESSMAN and philanthropist Vivian Reddy has donated R50,000 to officially kickstart the “10 Calls of Kindness” Telethon in support of the Merewent Cheshire Home - with the Sibaya Community Trust, to which he is the chairman, raising more than R100,000 above his donation

Reddy has now challenged 10 business leaders to match or exceed R100 000 each, which will go towards settling the home's municipal account and assisting with transport needs.

Merewent Cheshire Home provides essential residential care, dignity, and support to individuals living with severe physical disabilities.

However, like many non-profit organisations, the home is facing serious financial challenges that threaten its ability to continue delivering critical services.

Among the most pressing needs are:

  • The replacement of a specially adapted transport vehicle, essential for residents’ mobility and access to medical care
  • Settlement of a substantial municipal bill
  • Ongoing operational and care costs, including staffing, medical supplies, and daily living support

“The generous contribution by Vivian Reddy is more than a donation – it is a call to action,” said the Raven Naidoo of the chairperson of the Merewent Cheshire Home.

“We urge corporates and individuals alike to come forward and support this cause. Together, we can ensure that our residents continue to live with dignity, care, and hope.”

Businesses are encouraged to sponsor or contribute as follows:

  • Towards a new disability-friendly transport vehicle,
  • Assist in settling municipal arrears
  • Provide financial or in-kind support towards operational sustainability
  • Be a Champion of Kindness

The “10 Calls of Kindness” Telethon, on March 25 and 26, aims to unite the community in a shared mission – to uplift, support, and protect some of the most vulnerable members of society.

The telethon will take place from 9.30am to 4pm at 15 Eksteen Road in Merewent.

You can participate by calling 10 of your contacts to pledge or by making a pledge directly yourself.

Every contribution, no matter the size, brings the home closer to stability and ensures that its residents continue to receive the care they deserve.
