A DOMESTIC dispute in Glenashley, Durban North, escalated to a suspected murder-suicide on Saturday, with a husband allegedly shooting his wife before taking his own life. Police are currently investigating the incident
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Paul Magwaza said that Durban North police are investigating a case of murder and an inquest after an incident on Saturday, where a husband went to a venue where his wife was attending an event and called her to come outside.
“The wife came out, and the husband shot her. He then turned the gun on himself. They were both rushed to the hospital, where they were both declared dead,” Magwaza said.
According to Marshall Security, at approximately 3pm, Marshall Security and Durban North SAPS responded to a shooting incident on Minerva Avenue, Glenashley. Netcare 911 paramedics were also immediately notified.
“Upon arrival, two patients were found with gunshot wounds. It is believed that the incident may be domestic-related; however, the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation,” Marshall Security said.
KZN VIP Protection Services spokesperson Gareth Naidoo said that upon arrival, private emergency services were already on the scene treating the two patients.
“It is alleged that a female was shot before the male reportedly turned the firearm on himself,” Naidoo said.
“A firearm was recovered at the scene,” Marshall Security said.
