In a remarkable demonstration of community vigilance and coordinated efforts between law enforcement agencies, a trespassing suspect was apprehended following a tense chase that culminated in a dramatic tree-top standoff in Park Hill, Durban North.

Marshall Security, in a statement, said a member of the public noticed a suspect trespassing at a property on Clarendon Road on Wednesday.

They said teams, including armed response officers and the Special Operations Team, were immediately dispatched.

“Upon realising he had been spotted, the suspect fled the property on foot, running through neighbouring properties on Park Road. The member of the public remained on the call, actively following the suspect while providing real-time updates, allowing responding teams to track his movements with precision.”

The security company said what followed was not a typical arrest.

They said after an extended foot chase through the surrounding area, the suspect attempted to evade capture by climbing a tree at the corner of Blackburn Road and Chris Hani Road in an effort to hide.

“Marshall Security Armed Response Officers, together with Special Operations Team members, and supported by Greenwood Park SAPS and the Metro Police K9 Unit, quickly surrounded the area. Teams then worked to bring the suspect down safely; members physically climbing the tree to reach him. The suspect was transported to Greenwood Park SAPS for further processing and investigations.”

The security company said the arrest highlighted the critical role that vigilant community members, real-time communication, and coordinated response play in preventing crime.

“Not every arrest follows the same path, but persistence, teamwork, and action on the ground ensure that even the most unusual attempts to evade capture are brought to an end.”
