A Nissan Qashqai linked to a kidnapping case in Hibberdene has been seized following a ruling in the Durban High Court.

On Friday, the court granted a forfeiture order for a Nissan Qashqai vehicle seized in a kidnapping case that occurred in Hibberdene in May 2024, the Hawks said in a statement.

“The kidnapping victim who is a Bangladeshi national was accosted outside his shop in Hibberdene by unknown suspects who forced him into Nissan Qashqai and took him to Tandem Farm in Umzumbe.

“The victim was held captive for several days and subjected to ransom demands from the suspects, who initially demanded R400,000 for his release.

“After tense negotiations ,the kidnappers ultimately agreed to accept a reduced ransom of R94,000,” the statement read.

“As the victim’s  brother arrived at the designated drop off location with the ransom money, the kidnappers in the white Qashqai were caught red-handed taking the money. The vehicle was subsequently seized for further investigation.”

The matter was then referred to the Hawks from Priority Crime Specialised Investigation team (PCSI), which collaborated with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to secure the forfeiture order for the seized vehicle.
