A COUPLE’S planned engagement celebration in uMhlanga took a tragic turn when a woman died after experiencing severe chest pains, leaving family and friends in shock.
The woman, in her mid-40s, and her fiancé were travelling from Johannesburg to uMhlanga to celebrate their engagement. They had only been engaged for two weeks, IOL reported.
KZPA media liaison, Craig Botha, said paramedics were on their way to a meeting in Hillcrest, when they stopped at a petrol station in Cato Ridge.
Here, Botha said, the crew came across a frantic civilian pleading for help.
"The paramedic followed the distressed man to a parked vehicle, where they discovered a female passenger, unresponsive and showing no signs of life. The patient was immediately removed from the vehicle, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) was initiated in the parking lot as backup Advanced Life Support units were dispatched to the scene," Botha said.
Despite the arrival of more paramedics and fervent efforts to restore a heartbeat, the woman's condition did not improve. She was declared deceased at the scene.
The woman, according to her fiancé, had been complaining of chest pains for the past two weeks.
While extending his condolences to the woman's fiancé and her family, Botha urged people to pay close attention to their health.
"We urge the public to never ignore persistent chest pain and to seek medical evaluation immediately. Always listen to your body. Chest pain is an emergency," Botha warned.
