Shane Simpson has earned the fortunate - or unfortunate - title of being the "most feared" figure on the roads.
As the acting provincial inspector in the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) in KZN, the words "no mercy" and "no tolerance" frequently appear in his vocabulary.
Simpson's resolute approach to road safety has reportedly led to discussions with Siboniso Duma, the MEC for Transport in KZN, to submit his name to Guinness World Records as the "Custodian of Zero Tolerance."
For those tempted to push the boundaries of road safety during the Easter holidays, don't take your chances with Simpson!
His wife, well, now ex-wife apparently, can attest to this, said the KZN Department of Transport in a statement on Facebook.
Here's why...
The story goes that during one of RTI's grueling mental training sessions, it was agreed that RTI and Operation Shanela members would remove the following words from their vocabulary: Mercy (replace with no mercy) and tolerance (replace with no tolerance).
Simpson took it too far.
"After couple of days, he intercepted a motorist speeding. To his surprise, it was his wife and his daughter relaxed in the backseat. Instead of getting worried, he asked her a question #NenzaniLaEzweni in Afrikaans - #WatDoenJulleHier (What are you doing in the country?)
"To cut a long story short, the wife, who is now his ex-wife, was handcuffed and sent to the police cells. How can you arrest your wife like that?"
In a parting shot, the DoT further warned motorists that Simpson had "multiplied". One can only assume you need to be wary of other RTI officers on the roads this Easter - and always.
