THE discovery of Carla Engelbrecht's body in a freezer has shocked the community, as police continue their investigation into her disappearance

Police have confirmed that the woman found dead in a deep freezer at her Upington home in the Northern Cape is 46-year-old Carla Engelbrecht.

The grim discovery was made on Tuesday afternoon, hours after her husband raised the alarm when she vanished earlier that morning.

"There are no suspects at this stage and investigations continue," Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thabo Litabe told IOL.

Investigators are now scrambling to piece together what happened in the hours before Engelbrecht's body was found hidden inside the freezer.

"An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death."

Tributes have poured in for Engelbrecht. Local organisation Missing Persons South Africa, which had posted after her disappearance, has called for justice.

"Those responsible should be held accountable. Let us keep her family in our thoughts during this painful time," said the organisation.

Police say the probe is ongoing, with all information being assessed as part of the investigation.

Anyone with information is urged to come forward and contact the Upington Detective Unit.
