Mop-up operations have started following severe storms that impacted coastal areas, including eThekwini and Pietermaritzburg.

The storms, characterised by gale-force winds, thunder, and hail, uprooted trees, damaged power lines, and flooded major roads.

In a statement, the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in KZN said technical assessments are currently underway in both regions to determine the full extent of the damage.

"The KZN Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, through the Provincial Disaster Management Centre, is working closely with the affected municipalities to restore services and clear debris. No fatalities have been reported at this stage. A comprehensive update will be provided once technical assessments are concluded."
