In an unexpected encounter, a resident of Burbreez, Tongaat, spotted a black mamba in his garage on Sunday, and within moments something even more terrifying happened - he lost sight of it.

But thanks to Jordan Tarr, a reaction officer from Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), the 1.8 snake was captured.

In a statement on its Facebook page, Rusa said their members were dispatched after their operations centre received a call from a resident reporting seeing a snake in his garage.

"On arrival, reaction officer Jordan Tarr met with the homeowner, who had briefly sighted the snake before losing visual contact. A search of the garage was conducted and an approximately 1.8 metre black mamba was located within the premises. It was safely captured and transported to a dense bush area where it was released away from any residential properties."

Rusa said this was the second black mamba captured by Tarr in Tongaat on Sunday.

The incident sparked a wave of reactions from the public on social media.

Mandla Ndlovu, who commented on the Rusa post, said: "This black mamba is caught every day, released nearby and comes back again."

Shaun Mathura responded: "So you think there is only one mamba in the bush?"

Pesh OkamMvula Ngidi added: "I'd go straight to ICU by only seeing it."
