Five alleged hijackers fled on foot after they crashed their car in Phoenix on Thursday morning.
Gareth Naidoo, spokesperson for KZN VIP Protection Services, said it is alleged that five armed men travelling in a Mazda 2, attempted to hijack three separate victims at different locations within the Redfern and Whetstone areas.
He said while fleeing from the scene, the suspects reportedly lost control of their car and collided head on with another car on Fernham Drive in Redfern.
“Following the crash, the suspects abandoned their car and fled on foot in the direction of Industrial Park Drive. During their escape, they allegedly attempted a fourth hijacking, which was unsuccessful.”
Naidoo said KZN VIP Emergency Services responded to the scene alongside the South African Police Service and metro police.
“The victims involved were assessed and found to be in stable condition with no serious injuries reported. The suspects have since evaded arrest, and investigations are ongoing.”
