The Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) in KwaZulu-Natal is searching for a thrill-seeker who has captured the imagination of locals by emulating a superhero's antics.

Dubbed "Spiderman," the daredevil has been seen performing outrageous stunts on a moving vehicle; a spectacle that has both entertained and alarmed residents of Pietermaritzburg.

Footage circulated on social media shows the man latching onto the side of a dirt bin truck, nonchalantly perched on what appears to be a foothold.

The man then swings back and forth.

The three-minute video clip, recorded by a motorist following closely behind, reveals the daredevil's energetic display, which includes expertly timed foot placements on the ground before he clambers back to his precarious position.

After an exhilarating performance, the man appears visibly drained when the truck stops.

"He is convinced that he is in charge and (in) control of Pietermaritzburg," said the KZN DoT on its Facebook page.

In a bid to curb the reckless behaviour, Siboniso Duma, the KZN MEC for Transport, praised the "social media detectives" collaborating with the RTI to identify this urban daredevil.

As the RTI ramps up its efforts to locate "Spiderman," some may wonder how far this daredevil will go to claim his moment of fame.

One user, Joe Chauke, commented on the post that the truck driver had a mirror but he did not stop.
