The Durban Metro Police Service (DMPS) hosted the Police Patrol Dog Handlers Passing Out Parade on Tuesday at the Queen Nandi Mounted Rifle Regiment.
Deputy Mayor, Councillor Zandile Myeni, delivered the keynote address on behalf of the city.
Commissioner SW Mchunu, the Durban Metro Police Commissioner, highlighted the challenges in sourcing and training police dogs.
Despite these difficulties, the unit successfully secured 20 dogs; 13 fully trained K9s and their handlers passed on Tuesday.
"The parade showcased the discipline, dedication, and operational readiness of the K9 Unit through impressive demonstrations, including obedience, tactical response, and scenario-based interventions. This milestone marks a significant step forward in strengthening DMPS operational capacity in crime prevention, detection, and public safety," said the Durban Metro Police on its Facebook page.
