A TikTok video showing a woman dancing on a Checkers checkout counter has gone viral, sparking outrage and a formal response from the retailer
Her actions have sparked widespread outrage online and drawn a sharp response from the retailer.
In the footage, which she posted on Monday, the woman is seen climbing onto the checkout point, in Bryanston, while being filmed, before dancing on the counter as shoppers and staff look on, IOL reported.
The clip quickly spread across social media platforms, where many users accused her of endangering others and treating a retail space as a stage for content creation.
"Only in South Africa...Please don't make this trend," she posted.
Despite the backlash, the woman can be seen in the video continuing her dance after stepping down from the counter.
An employee then approaches her and instructs her to stop, but she carried on regardless, further fuelling criticism from viewers who described the behaviour as disruptive and unsafe.
The incident has since prompted a formal response from the retailer, who confirmed they are aware of the footage circulating online and have launched an internal process to deal with the matter.
"We are aware of the video circulating on social media. This behaviour does not align with our standards and is not condoned by us.
"The matter is being addressed through the appropriate internal channels. Thank you for bringing this to our attention," they said.
