Messages of condolence have flooded social media in memory of renowned filmmaker Kumaran Naidu, who passed away on Saturday after a prolonged illness.

Naidu, celebrated for his films such as Broken PromisesRun for Your Life; The Good, The Old and The Greedy; The Curse of Highway Sheila, and The House Knows, was a beacon of hope for many aspiring actors. His films often provided a platform for new artists, showcasing their skills and helping them break into the competitive world of cinema.

In tributes on Facebook, Omika Seeth wrote: "Some people don’t just work in film - they live it. Kumaran, a pioneer in the local film industry, was one of those rare souls whose passion wasn’t just visible, it was contagious. He had this incredible gift of seeing potential where others might not, and more importantly, creating space for it to grow.

"I feel truly grateful to have crossed paths with him - he saw potential when mine was depleted and through him and the opportunity he created, I was blessed enough to realise one of my dreams. That kind of trust doesn't just stay with you, it shapes you. His passing feels sudden, unreal, and deeply unfair. The industry has lost a visionary, but more than that, it has lost a heart that beat fiercely for storytelling and for people. His spirit and legacy live on in every frame he created, in every person he uplifted, and in every dream he helped set into motion. Rest easy, Kumaran. Your work, your passion, and your belief in others will never be forgotten. Hare Krishna..."

Jenelle Katelina Moonsamy: "... from the bottom of my heart I want to thank you again and I think I will never stop thanking you... you most certainly made dreams come true and for that I am ever so grateful to you Mr K. It's with such a heavy heart that the film industry has lost such an amazing legend and storyteller of the Indian community. May you rest in eternal peace Mr K. Lord Krishna saw your pain and decided to take you back home. May Your athma attain moksha..."

Uvshik Mahadeo: "Rest well our star, Kumaran Naidu. May Shree Krishna hold you in his arms. For now you are safe. You made me your family, your son and that will always be your greatest gift to me. I cherish our memories, your love and your guidance. In my heart is where you will live forever. Our bond is eternal dada."

Chrisintha Moodley: "Rest well Mr K. It is a sad day for our BP (Broken Promises) Family and the industry altogether. You were the pioneer of the local film industry. I am so grateful for the opportunity you gave me and I wouldn't be here in the industry today if it wasn't for you. Rest in eternal peace. JSK."

Naidu is survived by his wife Fiona, sons Sudarshan and Maheshan and his three dogs Arri, Alexa and Kia. In a statement, the family said details of a memorial service celebrating his life and work would be announced.
