Newark tragedy: family and friends pack the courtroom

A courtroom at the KwaDukuza Magistrate's Court is filled with relatives and friends of seven family members whose alleged killers are expected to appear this morning.

The grieving relatives have asked for space as they anxiously await the appearance of the three men accused of kidnapping and killing Alan and Sandy Monswamy, their children Kraidon and Shamarie, and relatives Cliffy Padayachee, Mooniamma Padayachee and Mariamma Appanah. 

They family were allegedly kidnapped from their home in Newark, on the North Coast of KwaZulu-Natal,  last Tuesday. 

Their bodies were discovered in a secluded area near Melmoth the next day. 

Following an intensive investigation by various law enforcement units, three suspects, aged 21, 26 and 28, were arrested last Wednesday afternoon.

Members of political parties and community members held placard demonstrations outside the courthouse on Monday, chanting for justice.
